Timothy W. Bishop

DAKOTA DUNES -- Timothy W. Bishop, 49, of Dakota Dunes died Monday, July 12, 2010, at his residence following a lengthy illness with cancer.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with Deacon Patricia Roberts officiating. Visitation with the family will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Tim was born July 1, 1961, in Sioux City, the son of Wendell and Joyce (Strawn) Bishop. He was a 1979 graduate of East High School. Farming was the love of his life and he farmed with his father and special nephew, Brent Denker, on the Bishop Farms in the Jefferson and Elk Points, S.D., areas.

Tim enjoyed surfing in San Clemente, Calif., jet-skiing and sky diving. He was a 22-year member of the United States Parachute Association. He also loved football and was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. His uncanny wit and humorous personality will always be remembered through the playful nicknames (Cheese, Shooter, Stimey, Mee-Mees and Duder) he gave to family and friends and by those he so fun-lovingly picked on.

Tim will be greatly missed by his family and friends who knew him as Ringo, his parents, Wendell and Joyce Bishop of Sioux City; his fiancee who was the love of his life and his caregiver, Tracy Cabana and her daughter, Jordyn Gilmer of Dakota Dunes; his sister, Shelly Denker and her husband, Donald of Sergeant Bluff; a brother, Michael Berke and his wife, Diane of Sioux City; his nieces and nephews, Brent Denker, Sarah Denker, Carolyn Berke, Brian Berke and his wife, Carrie and Kristin Berke; and aunts, uncles and cousins including his close cousin, Steve Swanson of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Tim's family would like to extend thanks to all of the caregivers who provided assistance and support for Tim.
