SIOUX CITY -- Anthony W. Turner, 49, of Papillion, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died peacefully Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Huntington Park Care Center in Papillion following a courageous battle with melanoma.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Sunnybrook Community Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Jeff Moes officiating.

Tony was born Dec. 23, 1960, in South Carolina, the son of Richard W. Turner and Charlotte (Hicks) Calhoun. Tony also spent childhood years in Florida, Wisconsin, and Iowa. He graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1979.

In 1989, he married Jill (Verdoorn) Becker in Sioux City, where they lived until moving to Kingsley, Iowa, in 1996 with their three children. Tony worked as a computer programmer/analyst. Over the span of his career, he was employed by Mid-American Energy and Metz Baking in Sioux City, Specialty Foods in St. Louis, Mo., and C&S Products in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

His interests included spending time with his kids, family, and friends, wrestling, cooking, being outdoors, reading and learning. He was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Tony is survived by his parents, Charlotte Calhoun of Papillion, Neb., and Richard W. Turner of Sevierville, Tenn.; his maternal grandmother, Helen Hicks of Hampton, S.C.; two sisters, Susyn Stolpe of Papillion, and Kim Calhoun of Kingsley, Iowa; four brothers, Kelly Calhoun of Seattle, Wash., Jeremy (and Jennifer) Calhoun of Greenville, S.C., Richard Turner II of San Juan, PR, Wayne Turner of Orlando, Fla.; three children, Sara, Joseph, and Lucas Turner of Kingsley; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Tony was preceded in death by his younger sister, Veronica (Turner) Berens; maternal grandfather; paternal grandparents; one cousin; two aunts; and two uncles.
